Spring Refresh: A Guide To Resetting Your Workspace

Along with new blooms and warmer weather, spring brings a sense of renewal, which is why you may have the urge to spring clean and organize your entire home. If you’re craving a refresh, it may be best to start simple with the one area of your home you probably spend the most time at — your desk.

Follow these tips to refresh your space and turn it into a place of joy, inspiration and somewhere you love to be every day. Because let’s face it, our desks are a bigger part of our lives than ever before.

Tip 1: Clean Out Your Workspace

If you find yourself with faded sticky notes all over your desk, file folders from last year still not stowed away or a cluttered desktop screen on your computer, now’s the time to take charge.

Take everything out and off of your desk, and only put the things you need back. You’ll be surprised at how many things you don’t actually need. Getting desk organizers and storage boxes will also help you fight the urge to shove all of those papers, pens and post-its into a junk drawer, and keep your workspace fresh, organized and clean.

Just like your desk, your computer tends to collect clutter. Be sure to organize your computer folders by deleting those unnecessary files and outdated notes. Really need the notes from last year’s meeting? Archive them. If you commit to doing this once a week, it won’t feel so overwhelming.

Tip 2: Upgrade Your Desk Setup

You probably spend at least 40 hours a week at or near your desk, so why not upgrade your setup to keep you productive?

Get a large desk monitor to give you two screens to work with. You will be able to navigate multiple browsers more comfortably and share one screen over video calls while still having another open window to work with. A large screen size will also help reduce the strain on your eyes.

A natural pairing with a monitor includes a mouse and external keyboard. If you're in the market for a new typing assistant, try mechanical keyboards. They provide a satisfying typing experience, last longer than non-mechanical keyboards and will improve your productivity.

Not sure which board to get? Check out our compact keyboards. You’ll get all the benefits of a mechanical keyboard but in a smaller, space-saving size. This is a great option if you're short on desk space or need a keyboard you can easily take on-the-go.

Something else to consider is an ergonomic chair. If you experience back or neck pain as a result of sitting at your desk for hours, investing in a good chair can help relieve your pain, improve your posture and your overall comfort levels.

Tip 3: Create A Cozy Ambiance

Creating an environment that works for you is essential to feeling refreshed and working more efficiently. Start by choosing a workspace that is exposed to natural light. This has a myriad of benefits, including promoting better sleep, reducing stress and boosting your mood.

Bring natural elements into your space, such as plants and decor with organic textures. Studies show that nature can instantly make us feel more inspired and see things with a different perspective. In fact, plants not only help clean the air around us, they also have a restorative effect on the brain, and can boost your concentration levels and attention capabilities.

Complete your space with a diffuser to gently waft lavender scents into your space, candles for a cozy ambiance and relaxing music to keep you stress-free as you work.

Want to make the space feel more like you? Bring in little things that make you happy and you want to look at. It could be picture frames, the right stapler or even a stack of your favorite design books that keep you inspired.

Refreshing your workspace doesn’t have to be a chore. Take control of your space by starting with one thing at a time and find what works best for you.
